Letter to the Editor

Town needs the Y facility

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Dear editor:

I'm a proud retired Air Force member and have lived in Mountain Home for 17 years.

In recent weeks, many editorials were published concerning the Western Elmore County Recreation District (WECRD) and its current mission, visions and policies.

I will admit I voted for the incumbents and I'm very pleased they will remain to see through what so many have put a lot of time into. The decision for the YMCA to be built (or not) belongs with the people and not those elected. We should decide.

There's no question this is a complicated decision that requires much pre-planning and thought, but the people of this town deserve follow through.

Whether or not you have children or grandchildren who would greatly benefit from a YMCA, I hope the people of this town will keep in mind the YMCA's mission is for a healthy "community."

In the end, my hope is the YMCA will be a reality. It will take work and dedication, I'll be the first to admit and the first to volunteer. Our town is not only in desperate need of a YMCA but greatly deserves one.

"If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it."
