Letter to the Editor

Thanks for marrow donations

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Dear editor:

On Saturday, "Be The Match Idaho" had the opportunity to participate at the Adult Health Fair at the Elks Lodge.

We are happy to announce that 64 new donors were added to the National Bone Marrow Registry. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the cost of the tissue typing tests were covered.

The registry drive was started in an effort to show support for Dr. Wakelee Bledsoe ,who is currently facing her own fight with leukemia. While Dr. Bledsoe might not benefit directly from the donors added to the drive, our hope is that by following Dr. Bledsoe's example throughout her years of practicing medicine in Mountain Home, a miracle may happen on her behalf.

I am amazed at the wonderful generosity of the people of Elmore County, especially Pioneer Federal Credit Union employees, Elmore Medical Center, The Dental Center, TMFP Physicians LLC, Dr. Michael Koelsch, and several other private citizens who helped to fund this drive.

If there is anyone who wanted to be on the National Registry but was unable to attend on Saturday, they can register online at http://join.BeTheMatch.org/wb49.

By using this link and completing the registration form, a cheek swab kit will be mailed for you to take your own sample and return by mail. Cost of the test will still be covered through Oct. 31, 2010.

In order to join, you must be age 18-60, complete the online health questionnaire and be willing to donate to anyone in need!

Thank you again.
