Bible Baptist Church celebrates golden anniversary

Friday, October 15, 2010
The church on American Legion has grown considerably from its origins as a tar-paper barracks acquired from the base.

Bible Baptist Church, 1555 American Legion Blvd., is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month.

The church was formally organized on Oct. 6, 1960.

Prior to its formal organization, a technical sergeant at the airbase, Cliff Britain, had helped organize a congregation of the independent church, with services held in member's homes.

Eventually, Pastor Thomas Grossman was called to formally organize the church. He, his wife, and 17 other members started the church "to organize a local New Testament Church to carry forth the gospel in the City of Mountain Home."
