First hunt nets a nice buck

It was easier getting Michael out of bed for his first Idaho deer hunt than it is most school mornings. Talking of the old days as we were heading up to the hills was good for me but about put him to sleep. We had laid out our plans the night before and he kept bring up his hunter safety class and what he had learned. Up and down the hills we went and his gun safety couldn't have been better as was his patience. We had spent at least 2 hours glassing 4 deer that were feeding towards us at about a mile. He waited and waited until they hit a draw and disappeared. After about a half hour we decided to try to move closer and this was after moving in almost 400 yards as it was over the last hour. Just as we started to get up the 4 deer came out of the draw at about 250 yards in front of us. I had my field glasses up and Michael had his rifle up. The lead deer was a nice buck so I told Michael to shoot when ready, I watched his breathing as he slowly exhaled and gently squeezes the trigger. He did everything perfect. Now that his first deer is in the books I have to say "thanks hunter ed". We would also like to thanks Dave Tapp for making this hunt possible.
