Wednesday, December 30, 2009

The ninth-grade boy's basketball team traveled to Kuna to take on the Kavemen in a conference game two weeks ago, earning a 51-40 win.

The young Tigers started out quick, jumping to a 4-0 lead behind two quick baskets by Tyler Senger. Kuna then went on a 9-2 run to take a 9-6 lead after the first quarter of play.

In the second quarter, the inside combination of Senger and Doug Long helped the Tigers to keep even with the Kavemen, going in at the half with a 20-20 tie.

In the second half, the young Tigers used a 21-point fourth quarter to outscore Kuna 31-20 to get the 51-40 victory.

Tyler Senger led all scorers with 21 points. Doug Long finished with 14 points and led the team with 15 rebounds. Skyler Quinteal scored eight points and led the team with six steals. Skyler Podesek had three points, Tyler Elliot and Malcolm Freer each scored two points and Mitchel Rodriquez had one point.

"We played a good second half. said head coach Brian English.

"In the first half we just didn't play great defense but I think we turned it around and made it tougher for Kuna to get their shots off.

"Offensively we just didn't get it together all night long but that gives us something to work on over the break.

"I felt our inside game, both offensively and defensively, really was good."

The team improved its record to 2-3.

The team has two games over the Christmas break. It traveled to Glenns Ferry on Tuesday, and will meet the Pilots again on Dec. 29.
