Wednesday, November 4, 2009

The Mountain Home Tigers snapped their five-game losing streak Friday night, closing out the season on Senior Night with a 36-0 win over Emmett.

The Tigers had an early scare when Tommy Miller was injured in the first two minutes of the game. The Tigers' leading scorer and rusher broke his collarbone and was removed from the field by ambulance.

Neither team scored in the first quarter, but Mountain Home got on the scoreboard twice in the second quarter. The first was on a 51-yard pass from Jake Hennessey to Trevor Woodruff. Fernando Salas booted the PAT to make it 7-0, Tigers, with 8:56 left in the first half.

After forcing a three-and-out by the Huskies, Mountain Home put together a six-play 63-yard drive, Jake Hennessey hooking up with Colton Zamora on an 18-yard touchdown pass. Hennessey then passed to Tyler Wright for the two-point conversion to make it a 15-0 lead at halftime.

The Tigers opened the second half with an 82-yard, 10-play scoring drive, Jake Hennessey passing to Tyler Wright for a 20-yard score. With the PAT by Fernando Salas, Mountain Home led 22-0 with 7:44 left in the third quarter.

After stopping the Huskies and forcing a punt, Mountain Home got the ball back on their own 41 and went 59 yards in seven plays, Jake Hennessey hooking up with Trevor Woodruff again, this one for 35 yards and a score. Salas' PAT made it 29-0 with 2:10 left in the third quarter.

Emmett did manage to move down to the Tiger seven-yard line on its next possession, but Drew Hopkins intercepted a Gary Poston pass in the end zone to kill the drive.

Mountain Home went 64 yards on its final possession, taking nine plays to score, capped by Tom Hennessey taking it in from two yards out. The PAT by Fernando Salas made it a 36-0 final.

Tiger coach Brian Floyd was glad to see his team end the season with a win.

"We played very well tonight; almost mistake-free football. When we did have mistakes on offense, our defense bailed us out with those two big turnovers down there toward the end that put the game away."

Coach Floyd was glad to see his team get the win to cap off what has been a frustrating season with close, tough losses. Dealing with three losses at the last second of those games kept the Tigers out of the playoffs, making it "a very weird year."

With Miller going out with the injury, Coach Floyd was glad to see Curtis Jackson step up and run the ball like he did.

"Tonight we needed someone to step up and he did," the coach said. "He was a force. I don't think those Emmett guys wanted to try tackling him any more."

Curtis Jackson led the Tigers' rushing attack with 123 yards on 18 carries. Juan Silva had 63 yards on 13 rushes and Tom Hennessey rushed for 53 yards and a score on 16 carries. Tommy Miller had two yards on two rushes before he went out with the injury. Jake Hennessey had one carry for two yards.

Jake Hennessey completed 11 of 21 passes for 211 yards and four touchdowns. He had two passes picked off. Tom Hennessey completed one pass for seven yards.

Trevor Woodruff caught four passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Tyler Wright had three catches for 55 yards and a score, Brock Morris had two catches for 35 yards, Colton Zamora had two catches for 30 yards and a score and Cody Staebler caught one pass for two yards.

The win raised the Tigers to 2-7 overall record and 2-5 in conference action.
