Lady Tigers split wins at tourney

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers opened the District III 4A Girls Soccer Tournament at Skyview Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Middleton.

Mountain Home's lone goal was scored by Lauren Moore. The Lady Tigers closed out their regular season girls soccer schedule earlier in the week with a win and a loss.

Mountain Home 3, Nampa 0

The Lady Tigers led all the way in a 3-0 win over Nampa last Monday at Eastside Park.

Anastasia Sansone, Jessica Tindall and Shelby Henrick all had goals for Mountain Home. Claudia Bermensolo had an assist. Alicen Wendall had seven saves on goal.

"It was a good effort," said Mountain Home girls soccer coach Dan Snelgrow after the game. "We changed the field up a little bit trying to get a little bit more defensive, and it ended up probably being a little bit more offensive, so we'll look at it again tomorrow, but I liked the way the field was, I liked the way the girls put forth the effort."

Bishop Kelly 4, Mountain Home 1

Bishop Kelly finished its regular season schedule with a perfect 14-0 conference record after its 4-1 win over Mountain Home Wednesday, but it wasn't easy.

With emotions high, the Lady Tigers scored first with Anastasia Sansone scoring off an assist by Shelby Henrick at about 10 minutes into the first half. Bishop Kelly managed a goal about 10 minutes later, but that would be it the rest of the half, as the Lady Tiger defense kept Bishop Kelly frustrated.

About 27 minutes into the second half the Lady Knights scored to go ahead 2-1. They would score two more, all three coming within a matter of about five minutes.

Mountain Home got just five shots on goal for the game and Bishop Kelly had 16 shots on goal, with Mountain Home's goalkeeper, Alicen Wendall, providing a stellar performance with 12 saves on goal.

"It was an awesome effort," said Coach Snelgrow after the game. "It was Senior Night, the girls were emotional and ready to play. If we could take that five minutes away from the second half, it'd be a better game. The last time we played these guys (a 9-0 loss at Bishop Kelly) we kind of let our heads hang and gave up on the field. (Tonight) we competed for 80 minutes."

The loss to Middleton put the Lady Tigers in a consolation bracket game against Emmett on Monday. Results were not available at press time.
