Dear editor:

This letter is in regards to the senior pictures that you ran on May 20, 2009.

My son Archer Knox is graduating and I am very proud of him. Imagine my surprise when my son's picture was not in the paper and come to find out that he will not be in the senior year book either.

Let me tell you about how long and hard trip this kid has had in his life to make it this far and then to have someone at the school and the company that they hired to take the year book pictures dropped the ball. Maybe I'm at fault too. I asked my son if he took his picture and he told me he did. I like to believe my son told me the truth and I have the canceled check to prove that the business took my money for my son's picture.

Archer was a miracle baby. He was born 2 and 1/2 months early with all kinds of medical problems that he has had to overcome in his life so far. All the doctors said he wouldn't live 12 hours, let alone to make it a graduation from high school.

I just think that there should be someone accountable for making sure that this once in a life time special event for these young kids' lives happens. It is exciting for them to see themselves as seniors in the local paper along with their classmates. It is a very proud moment for them all.

Unfortunately, between the business that took the pictures for the school district and the school district themselves, they have dropped the ball and let not only my son fall through the cracks but who knows how many others in the past.

As a result of my several phone calls Ms. Martin from the high school stopped production for the yearbook and took a picture herself and got it sent in. I can't thank her enough for what she did to make it happen. But this whole incident should never have happened.

I'm hoping that they will come up with a system to make sure that this NEVER happens again.

Very proud parent of Archer Knox. Graduating senior of 2009.

Karrie Knox

(Editor's note: The pictures we use are provided by the yearbook staff. If you don't have a yearbook photo taken, we won't get one. After we get the photos, we identify which students we are missing, and make arrangements to have notes sent to those students requesting they provide us with a photo by a specified deadline. If we don't get it by then, they are "not pictured.")
