Letter to the Editor

Letter writer is just one who likes to complain

Dear editor:

I would like to comment on the constant ranting and raving by Mr. Leonard Hutterman.

I know Mr. Hutterman and his antics very well, since I tried to work with him on a number of filed complaints as the Elmore County Code Enforcement Officer.

Mr. Hutterman provides some interesting points, but none of them have any substance. He is a disgruntled citizen who, in my honest opinion, did not get his way whenever he filed unsubstantiated complaints, despite every investigative action taken by the Elmore County Growth and Development Department for him.

Mr. Hutterman should take a dose of his own medicine by realizing that tying up valuable state and county resources for his own personal agenda is a waste of taxpayer dollars. Complaints warrant articulable facts and Mr. Hutterman was never interested in hearing these facts because they did not fit into the category of what he felt was owed to him.

During my time with the Elmore County Growth and Development Department we worked very hard with all citizens, contractors, external agencies and many others, because that was the job we were entrusted to accomplish.

In my two and half years I worked as the Code Enforcement Officer, Mr. Hutterman could not grasp the concept that all enforcement matters had gone through a comprehensive investigative process before decisions were rendered. Each and every time a final decision was provided to him on another complaint filed, he would not concede this fact and proceeded to tie up other state and county agencies to "work the system" in an effort to obtain the answers he was looking for.

This behavior from Mr. Hutterman and others like him are what create more work for issues that have already been resolved and conform to county regulations and ordinances. By him stating otherwise, validates the points I have made.

Mr. Hutterman needs to realize he cannot pick and choose who he personally wants sitting in those Growth and Development positions working those issues for his own personal gain. The system is not designed to revolve around one person! The County elected officials have placed great trust in the county staff to perform their duties with respect to all citizens of this great county.

In my time with this department, I observed first hand how many times Bonnie Sharp (Department Director) went out of her way to resolve issues brought forth to her and the staff. The actions of Bonnie Sharp, the Planning and Zoning staff, the Building Inspector and Code Enforcement staff were conducted with the highest standards. Albeit, the decisions rendered sometimes did not make all the citizens happy, but this is the government in action.

I will leave Mr. Hutterman with this one question to ponder over.... Are you going to address all officials in this great nation because you are unhappy with all the decision made that do not appease you? If not, then provide constructive arguments that will enable the system to work with and for you before pointing your finger at one county agency that has been working hard to make Elmore County one of the best places to live in.

One last point to make will be this.... Elmore County has not hired a new Code Enforcement Officer since I left Mountain Home two months ago. The county elected officials are using available resources within the Growth and Development Department to ensure the job gets accomplished. How is that for saving tax dollars?
