Letter to the Editor

They're trying to get our guns

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Dear editor:

Imagine if you can, reporting to the sheriff's office to register yourself with him and paying a fee to do so. You will also provide his office with a passport-sized photo, and submit to being thumbprinted, and furthermore, you will notify his office immediately if you change your place of residence.

Is it because you're an alien? An ex-con? Sex offender perhaps? No, it's because you're a gun owner.

Wasting no time, just two weeks before the inauguration, Congressman Bobby Rush (an Illinois Democrat) has introduced House Resolution 45. This is the bill your dad and uncle used to warn you about. Don't look for it in the Statesman or the L.A. Times. Check it for yourselves online, HR 45.

At face value, this is nothing new. The Democrats have been after our gun rights for the last four decades, but up until this past November they haven't had the votes available to get it done.

While a senator, Obama supported Ted Kennedy's "Cop Killer Bullet Ban" that would have outlawed most deer and elk rifle calibers. He tried to get handguns banned, he wants to close any gunshop within five miles of a school, he wants the Clinton ban back in effect, and Concealed Carry abolished in all 50 states. He also pushed a bill in Illinois, that if passed, would allow prosecution of any homeowner defending his home, self or family with a firearm.

Obama will sign any anti-gun bill that reaches his desk, and on Jan. 6, Congressman Rush from Illinois (isn't THAT a coincidence?) got the first ball rolling. If it makes it through the House, gets to Obama and becomes a law, Constitutional or not, it will make criminals out of anyone and all of us who own a firearm and do NOT surrender to this registration, thumbprinting and photograph.

And you know what follows registration. We've seen it too often throughout world history. This is no longer a "coffee shop" debate as it HAS been. With Obama and Biden at the top, and solid control of Congress, they can do a lot more now than just "chip away" at our Constitution, as they're already doing.

Even if this new bill DOESN'T get passed, it should be an impeachable offense. Our elected officials take the same oath we did as servicemen, to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, NOT disregard it for our own agendas. Obama was lying while his hand was still in the air. You don't just support the portions of the Constitution you happen to AGREE with. That man has no right to be president, nor does any OTHER politician have a right to his/her office if they cannot or will not uphold their oath of office and position the voters have entrusted them with. THEY work for US, not vice versa, and it's time to remind them of that when we go to the polls to "hire and fire." Unless we're brain dead, we don't need instructions from the media.

If our elected officials don't feel obligated to follow the laws of our land, I don't feel obligated to follow THEM. This "registration" business, passport photo, thumbprinting and movement reporting, is a page right out of Heinrich Himmler's play book. I'm not doing it, Obama or no Obama. If they want them, they're welcome to try.

This is NOT a trivial matter, folks. Gun control isn't about guns, it's about control. It is far more than just a "single issue", because if we ever lose our gun rights, there will be no way to guard the rest of them.

I often wonder, what part of "shall NOT be infringed" don't these morons understand.
