Tiger sophomore hoops drops two games

The Mountain Home Tigers sophomore boys basketball teams dropped their first two games of the season last week with losses to Mountain View and Timberline.

The Mountain Home Tigers battled Mountain View tough all night, but came up short, 48-44, in their season opening boys basketball game at Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium last Wednesday night.

The Tigers battled back for an early five-point deficit to tie the game at 12-12 after a quarter. They took the lead in the second quarter and were up 25-19 at the half, and led 33-30 heading into the fourth quarter.

Mountain View went on a 14-2 run in the fourth to go up 48-41. Colton Zamora's three-pointer made it a 48-44 final.

James Simon led Mountain Home's scoring with nine points, Justin Connolly added eight points, Colton Zamora and Mert Baysal both scored six, Ricky Castillo had five, Dakota Ramos four, and Brent Sexauer, J.T. Cristobal and Anthony Barboza each scored two.

Timberline 59

Timberline pulled away in the second half to down the Mountain Home Tiger sophomores 59-40 Friday night at Timberline.

An 11-2 run by Mountain Home in the last two minutes of the first quarter put the Tigers up 16-14 after a quarter but a 16-6 run by Timberline in the second quarter put the Wolves up, 34-26, at halftime.

Mountain Home managed to get within three in the third, but trailed 41-34 heading into the fourth. An 18-6 edge for Timberline in the fourth made it a 59-40 final.

Colton Zamora led the Tigers in scoring with nine points, Ricky Castillo added eight, Brent Sexauer seven, Anthony Barboza, Dakota Ramos and Mert Baysal each had four, James Simon three, and Justin Connolly one.
