Library centennial was worth attending

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Dear editor:

Sometimes, when reading and listening to the news, one could become discouraged with the state of affairs in our country or even our community.

That's why it was so uplifting to attend the Centennial Celebration Open House held at our beautiful local library last Saturday.

To see children, teens, young adults, oldsters, enjoying one another and celebrating library services was reminiscent of the gathering held on the Camegie Library (now the museum) grounds 100 years ago. Both groups are a testament to a community that values the enrichment in life that a library offers.

The newly remodeled Mountain Home Library is not only a receptacle of books that can be borrowed, but a state-of-the-art electronically enhanced opportunity for other interests.

Thanks to Luise House and her hard-working staff, the library also offers various other programs, displays, etc., to a wide-range of age groups.

They certainly out-did themselves with the displays depicting "Through the Decades," featured at the recent Open House. I understand these displays will be left up for public viewing for another week. If you were unable to attend Centennial Celebration, I would suggest visiting the library for a delightful educational experience.
