Basque picnic set for Saturday

Euskal Lagunak, the local Basque organization, will hold its 48th Annual Mountain Home Basque Picnic on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Mountain Home Basque Park.

The event will feature a traditional Basque dinner from 3-5 p.m. that includes lamb, Basque rice, red beans with chorizo, salad and bread.

A number of events are scheduled for the day, which celebrates the Basque culture.

The weightlifting exhibition is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Children's games will begin at 5:30 p.m. and adult Games at 6:30 p.m.

The Etxeko Gazteak Dancers, the local Basque youth dance group, will perform at 7:30 p.m., and the Oinkari Basque Dancers from Boise will perform traditional dances at 8 p.m.

The event concludes with a street dance featuring live music by "Amuma Says No" beginning at 9 p.m.

Organizers note that all times are "Basque time."

  • After last years basque picnic I was told a photo of my wife and I was in the paper. Would like to get a copy of the paper or the photo. Thanks
