New car a top prize in hospital golf tournament fundraiser

The Elmore Medical Center Foundation will host its 6th Annual Golf Classic and Silent Auction on Saturday, Aug. 4, to support the purchase of a new Zoll Defibrillator for the hospital and to provide funds for the growing hospital endowment.

This year's event will include a Hole-in-One prize sponsored by Mountain Home Auto Ranch. If any of the golfers make a hole-in-one on the designated hole, they will win a 2007 Ford Edge.

The 2007 Annual Golf Classic will begin with a continental breakfast and golfer registration starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Desert Canyon Golf Course on Saturday, Aug. 4. Participants will tee off at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start. A barbecue lunch with prize and award presentations will follow the golf tournament. Everything is included in the $45 cost.

Non-golfers can attend the barbecue lunch for $20. Golfers are encouraged to pre-register to reserve their place in the tournament. Registration forms are available at the golf course and Elmore Medical Center.

The Foundation was established in the fall of 2001. Every year, the fundraising proceeds from the Golf Classic have been used to purchase a needed piece of equipment for the hospital. The money raised in past years has been used to purchase the Long-Term Care Unit van, covered nearly half of the cost for the construction of the helipad, purchased a portable bone density scanner, provided funding towards the purchase of a new C-arm, mobile x-ray machine and supported the purchase of a new infant warmer.

This year the Foundation is raising money to purchase a new defibrillator.

Elmore Medical Center has been providing area residents with local healthcare for more than 50 years. The hospital has grown with the community and continues to be challenged with the ever-increasing space and medical equipment needs.

"Keeping up with the advances in medical technology is one of the greatest challenges we face at Elmore Medical Center. The cost of the technology is always increasing and we also face the problem of not having enough room to house the new equipment," noted Doreen Krabbenhoft, Foundation Director.

Area businesses and hospital vendors sponsor the event. The Foundation Board of Directors, made up of 10 community volunteers, actively seek sponsors and donors for the event.

A variety of donated items will be available for bidding in the silent auction. This year the list includes a Toshiba Television, an antique window wall hanging, a Salt Lake City Olympics commemorative coffee table book and a wide variety of gift certificates and gift baskets. Golfers and non-golfers alike are encouraged to stop by and bid. A silent auction will close at the conclusion of the golf tournament at approximately 2 p.m. Winning bidders may pick up their items at that time.
