Optimist Youth will take over rodeo at county fair

In addition to the Junior Rodeo in Mountain Home each August, the Mountain Home Optimist Club has taken over the Youth Rodeo at the Elmore County Fair this year.

When approached earlier this spring by the fair board, Optimist members voted to add the event to the list of youth programs offered by the Mountain Home Club.

The Elmore County Optimist Youth Rodeo will be held Thursday, July 26, beginning at 6 p.m.

Entries are open to residents of Elmore, Owyhee, and Gooding counties as well as the Duck Valley Indian Reservation.

The entry deadline is Saturday, July 21.

The Mountain Home Optimist Ag Youth will have a full week of events at the fair starting on Tuesday, July 24, at 9 a.m. with Team Sorting, followed at 2 p.m. with the Horse show.

Wednesday, July 25, at 9 a.m. is the Optimist beef show and at 4 p.m. is the lamb show.

Thursday, July 26, at 8 a.m. is the swine show. The breeding beef show begins at 1 p.m. followed at 4 p.m. with the goat show and the Junior Rodeo at 6 p.m.

Friday, July 27, the Optimist overall events begins at 3 p.m.

Saturday, July 28, everyone interested in purchasing an animal or supporting the youth by bidding on an animal are invited to attend the Optimist livestock sale, which will start at about 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to the Optimist Buyers' Luncheon sponsored by the Optimist Ag youth, leaders, parents, Idaho Power, Pauls, Meadow Gold (Tom Rist), Northwest Farm Credit, and Still & Leavitt.
