Schedule of events for Elmore County fair and 4-H activities

Despite the absence of the carnival, the Fair and Rodeo still offer the public a chance to enjoy a variety of activities, beginning Monday with the 4-H Horse Show at 6 p.m.

Monday through Tuesday activities are primarily dedicated to 4-H and Optimist Youth Organization events, such as animal and exhibit judging.

At noon on Wednesday, the exhibit building will open to the public. The building will be open until 10 p.m. each night during the fair.

At 4 p.m. Wednesday Magic Valley Team Roping will demonstrate the art of roping cattle at the rodeo arena. The queen contest begins at 7 p.m. and the Michael Heeb Band, featuring oldies but goodies tunes, will play on the midway beginning at 8 p.m.

Thursday is "Family Day -- Alcohol Free Day." The exhibit building will reopen at 10 a.m. The All Youth Junior Rodeo begins at 6 p.m. at the rodeo grounds. The country/rock band "Octane" will begin playing on the midway at 8 p.m.

Friday, which has been designated "Military Appreciation Day," in keeping with this year's fair theme of "Honoring our Military -- Past, Present, and Future." The exhibit building will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. From 7-8:30 p.m. hypnotist Andrew Becker will perform on the midway. The ICA/IMPCA rodeo begins at 8 p.m., and the Jeff Palmer Band (country western) will be on the midway at 9 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Saturday at 9 a.m. the University of Idaho 4-H Livestock Sale begins. The exhibit building opens at 10 a.m. and the Optimist Youth Organization Livestock Sale begins at 11:30 a.m. There will be a working dog demonstration at the rodeo arena at 4 p.m. Becker will again perform on the midway from 6 -- 7:30 p.m. and the rodeo begins at 8 p.m.

Open Class exhibitors must pick up their items from the Exhibit building between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Admission to the fair is: 7 years and older -- $2; 6 years and under -- free.

Admission to the junior rodeo is: Adults and senior citizens -- $2; youth -- $1, and children under 6 are admitted free.

Admission to the ICA/IMPCA rodeo (per night) is: Adults -- $6; youth -- $4, and senior citizens -- $3. Children under 6 are admitted free.

Registration for Open Class exhibits (excluding perishables) will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, July 23, and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24. Perishable items must be entered from 8-11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24.


Elmore County 4-H has announced the schedule for all of its activities at the Elmore County Fair this year.

Rabbit Show-- 8 a.m.

Dairy Show-- 8:30 a.m.

Saturday, July 28

Dog Exhibition-- 8 a.m.

Livestock Sale-- 9 a.m.

Project record books and project exhibits will be displayed in the Exhibit Hall from Wednesday, July 25, through Saturday, July 28.

"We invite you to visit and support any or all of the shows. The youth have been working hard on their projects and would appreciate your attendance," said MaryAnn Peterson, Elmore County Extension 4-H Program Assistant.

A buyer's breakfast, sponsored by the 4-H members, parents, leaders, Idaho Dairy Council and Meadow Gold, will start at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, followed by the 4-H portion of the livestock sale at 9 a.m. All livestock buyers are invited to attend the breakfast.

Beef, dairy, goat, sheep and swine will be available for purchase at the 4-H Livestock Sale that follows the breakfast on Saturday. Successful bidders have two options -- purchase the animal, which will be delivered to the packer for processing, for full bid price (you keep the meat), or turn the animal back and pay only the difference between the bid price and the floor (market) price.
