Bruneau-Grand View schools propose $5 million bond

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

The Bruneau-Grand View Joint School District Plant Facility Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee are expected to present a proposal for a school bond of just under $5 million to the Bruneau-Grand View School Board at its regular meeting on July 19.

The requested bond election would be held on Aug. 28.

Both of the committees represent a large cross section of the school district, with members from Oreana, Grand View, Bruneau and Riddle, as well as from the Elmore County side of the district. District faculty and staff are also represented on the committees.

The 17-member Strategic Planning Committee was organized in 2004 to help the district focus on specific areas to address for improvement in the district.

The areas included philosophy and goals, academic achievement, professional development as well as ten-year plans for technology and plant facilities.

The Technology Committee, under the direction of District Technology Coordinator Will Goodman, worked to identify outdated computer hardware and systems as well as the installation of security systems throughout all schools in the district.

The facility committee was formed to look at the three schools and determine what they were in need of as far as building repairs and updates.

That committee is made up of three community members from each trustee zone in the district. Last fall the committee toured all facilities to identify structural, safety, security, electrical and technological needs.

Through multiple meetings the committee developed a final list for a project proposal.

The committee then researched each project and obtained estimates on the costs of the projects.

If the board adopts the bond resolution of $4,965,500, the committee members will be scheduling public meetings to answer questions and explain the necessity of each project. They also will be sending out informational flyers.

The public is invited to contact members of the committees or the school district office.

The list of committee members can be found on the district's website, or contact Stacey Buckingham, Ted Cantrell, Doug Thurman, Ruth Jackson, Christine Collett, Donna Bennett, Clay Atkins, Marie Robertson, Celia Tindall, Jo King, Teresa Seng or Russ Erwin--area representatives on the election committee.
