Mountain Home High School's golf team hosted the rest of the SIC 4A teams at Desert Canyon Golf Course last Monday for a conference tourney, and both the Mountain Home girls had their best numbers of the season as both finished fifth.

Bishop Kelly nipped Vallivue in the girls competition, 163-164. Nampa and Skyview tied for third, both shooting 188. Kuna was fifth with a 189, Mountain Home next with 219, and Emmett shot a 240. Caldwell did not have a complete team for the day.

Jimena Garcia led Mountain Home, shooting a 47. Carlotta Vaughn came in with a 51, Princess Young, 58, Brianna Rodriguez, 63, and Shantell Beasley, 64.

Vallivue edged Bishop Kelly by a stroke, 153-154. Emmett was third at 162, Kuna next at 168, a shot better than Mountain Home's 169. Nampa and Skyview both shot 170, and Caldwell came in at 171.

Mountain Home's Joe Rebon tied for second individually, shooting a one-over par 37, a stroke behind the medalist. Nick Trueba came in with a 43, Layne Short, 44, and Stephen Bitrick and Monte Rinebold both carded a 45.

The Tiger JV squad finished fourth. Bishop Kelly won the JV competition, shooting a 169, a stroke ahead of Vallivue. Skyview was third with a 178, followed by Mountain Home, 193, Nampa, 198, Emmett, 200, and Kuna, 209.

Sean Lawrence led the Mountain Home JV squad with a 44. Brad Yagues carded a 47, Adam Wenger shot a 49, and Ryan Hammer shot a 53.

With the district tournament at Mountain Home Monday, and the top four teams making it to state, and the top eight individuals, Mountain Home Tiger golf coach Scott Mederios is optimistic going into district.

"The kids stepped up and played well today, and the nice thing is that district is here as well next week, and it really is an advantage, especially in golf. You hear about the home court advantage all the time, and in golf it makes a big difference knowing how to play the course, and it showed today, with Joe (Rebon) shooting a 37, one over par.

"He could have easily shot under, and that's what he's going to need to do to go to state, and I'm sure he's excited about that. Individually, he can make it to state, and as a team, we have an outside chance, if they all shoot their best."

The District III 4A Boys and Girls Glf Tournament was scheduled for Monday at Desert Canyon Golf Course in Mountain Home.
