Tigers earn awards

Mountain Home Tiger football coach Tony Kerfoot announced a number of honors and awards at the annual Tiger football banquet on Nov. 19.

First Team All-Conference football awards went to Caom Hansen for offensive line, Mike Thornsberry at wide receiver and Matt Maurer at linebacker.

Second Team All-Conference awards went to Shawn Morin at defensive back, Josh Stanek at defensive lineman, and Stephen Reinschmidt as kicker.

Receiving Honorable Mention All-Conference were Kole Spaulding as offensive lineman and at linebacker, Stan Bessey as offensive lineman and Tyson Sessions at linebacker.

Selected to play in the District III Senior All Star Shrine Football game on Nov. 28 at Bishop Kelly were Mike Thornsberry and Caom Hansen.

In special awards voted upon by the players, Most Valuable Offensive Player went to Mike Thornsberry, and Most Valuable Defensive Player went to Matt Maurer.

The Outstanding Lineman Award went to Caom Hansen.

Stan Bessey earned the Most Inspirational Player Award, and Andrew Grodi earned the Most Improved Player Award.

The Outstanding Tiger Coaches Award went to Shawn Morin, and the first annual Scott Yagues Memorial Award went to Kole Spaulding.

Several Tigers also were honored for academics.

Earning All-Conference SIC All-Academic awards for having a grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or better were Stan Bessey, Stephen Reinschmidt, Andrew Grodi, Matt Maurer, Shawn Morin and Aaron White.

Earning State Academic Awards from the Idaho High School Activities Association (IHSAA) for having a GPA of 3.75 or above were Stan Bessey, Matt Maurer, Shawn Morin and Stephen Reinschmidt.

In closing comments on the Tigers 4-5 season, Coach Kerfoot commented that four of the five losses were to teams that finished 8-1 on the regular season, and all five losses came to teams that made the playoffs.
