Ruth Allen Pierce passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at the Guardian Angel Cottage in Lewiston, Idaho. A memorial service was held on Monday, Feb. 21, at the Church of the Nativity (Episcopal), in Lewiston. Born on Oct. 11, 1918, in Boise, Idaho, to James Allen and Helen Purkhiser Dement, Idaho pioneers, Ruth grew up in various locations around the northwest, moving frequently because her father owned and operated newspapers.
