Post Script to the Story of Zelda and Yoshi

When Yoshi passed on to the little pond in the sky in January, the ground here was frozen solid. My son, Coleton wanted to make sure that she had a proper burial so he prepared a little box that had contained a pair of pocket binoculars he had received as a stocking stuffer the Christmas past. He's watched enough CSI: Las Vegas, Miami and NY to know what happens to a living thing once it dies and lingers without proper preparation for burial. I told him not to worry and to just go ahead and put the box containing our little friend in the extra freezer that we have in the garage. I reassured him that Yoshi would remain in near pristine condition so that we could bury her in the spring when the ground thawed.
Fast forward to last night, 3 months after the demise and freeze drying of Yoshi. My daughter was visiting and I had made some dinner but was in need of some vegetables to go with the yummalicious hamburger helper I had made. I asked her to go look in the freezer outside to see if I had anything out there...(you know where this is going, don' t you?). She came in and said, "nope-no veggies; just a loaf of bread, some fudge bars and box of binoculars. What the heck do you have a box of binoculars in the freezer for??" At that moment, my son and I shot a glance at each other that anyone witnessing that moment would have read as, "UT OHHHH!" At the same time, Coleton and I exclaimed, "YOSHI!" at which Colleen said, "what is YOSHI?"
Her prompt reaction of "EEEWWWWWW!" as we explained to her about Yoshi's state of frozen animation was followed by her motions of wiping off imaginary cooties from her hands as she explained that she shook the box and just tossed it back in the freezer without opening it. Phew!
Friends and family will gather this Sunday, the 26th Day of April to inter our beloved little, Yoshi.
