I've lived in Mtn Home since 1989, so that's...hold on...I'm thinking...WOW! Exactly 25 years! Boy, I think I can almost declare myself an Idahoan. But my family is British and I grew up in Louisiana around lots of other Brits so I still think I'm a little bit of a mutt. Those of you who have been around awhile may remember when I used to blog all the time. My opinions weren't very accepted and there was always an issue because I work for the county. That really wasn't fair because I NEVER blog at work! And I am still entitled to my opinions and thoughts about city and county issues, right? However, it stirred a lot of pots and those pots certainly can make a lot of noise! Since I'm a writer, I took what I wrote in my blog seriously so I spent a lot of time researching things which got exhausting to do when you're not even get a paycheck for it. So I stopped. That was a blessing to many! However, to this day, I still have people stop me and ask me why I wasn't blogging and t! hey missed it. I've missed it. Mainly because there are so many issues that come up and I have no voice except around my friends and I'm sure they are tired of it.

I'm so sick of the lying media. Come on, people in the press, stop kissing the Almighty OBama's rear and report things with some measure of journalistic truth. They reported boldly,that it was the Republicans who were willing to shut down the government and deny pay to our troops in order to defund Planned Parenthood. Yes, the Reps are the reason for everything bad! Our media (ABC News) delivered that outright bunch of lies.

This budget argument was over the fiscal year that is now almost over. Why didn't the democrates, who had the votes and the power come up with a budget in October instead of sitting on their backsides doing nothing? The Dems were the majority back then. Why? Well, I think it is because they were so focused on the elections and how they might use this budget crisis after elections to their advantage.

Let's get the facts right, Media. Military are considered "essential" personnel and would therefore, by law have been paid if the gov't had shut down. Dems & their media slaves use lies and half-truths like spoiled children who hate the new kids on the block stealing attention so they will pitch a fit and tell stories to get them in trouble. Grow up!

Anyone who disagrees with them is called "extremists" Label them fast and get the Media Hounds to run with it and the kids can laugh gleefully at the mess that they have created.

Back to that budget: I read an interesting example.

"The deficit for February (the shortest month of the year!) was $223 billion. That was the largest single deficit of any month in our country's history.

Let me put it another way: The same day that Republicans in the House voted to cut spending by $6 billion, our national debt jumped by $72 billion. That's $72 billion in new deficits, every day of the week, every week of the year.

Here's an analogy your neighbors might understand. Say a penny represents $1 billion. Right now, our Federal debt equals 15,800 pennies. The pile is growing by 72 pennies every day.

So far, Republican budget cutters have removed 10 pennies. Meanwhile, the Democrats offered to remove 4.5 pennies. That's it; that's all the fat they said could be found in the budget. That comes to about one-sixteenth of the number of new pennies they want to borrow each and every day to fund their favorite socialist schemes."

Now there is an example of journalist truth for you. In your face, easy to understand truth. The power to balance the budget was in the Dems hands and they sat on it so they could use it on the playground to make the new kids look bad.

And Obama? What about the grand Commander? He could care less as he focues on getting re-elected. He uses this budget crisis to do the same thing, chastizing those who oppose the Dems and his agenda.

You do realize your going to get rebuffed with lies, you're going to be called names and a racist for wanting to take the food out of the starving elderly and put disabled children on the streets by wanting to live within our countries budget. I agree with you 100% and also think the government needs to be shut down. The truth about this so called 38 billion in savings this year turns out to be just a couple of million. But like the heath care that was going to MAKE money it turns out to be a lie just like the budget. Ask yourself what if you handled your personal budget like this? You would be put in jail or on the street after your home was taken back. Cut everything except defense and get us out of the wars as soon as possible. Cut welfare, food stamps, and almost 3 years of unemployment completely. Make people on unemployment work 8 hours a day picking up trash on the side of the road; they will get motivated to find a job after a day or two of hard labor for minimal wage. Working at McDonalds would seem easy compared to that. Cut out all foreign aid and all public money going to pet project. The DOD can cut back on waste also and get rid of redundant federal agencies. Tax reform, do away with all deductions period. Companies would have to pay and people wouldn't get thousands back for having eight children even though they didn't put a penny into the pot. No credits for having more children. And finally you must have your passport or birth certificate to get a drivers license or state ID and must show it when pulled over, buying alcohol, or voting. I have no trouble showing my ID to anyone that would like to see my ugly face, I'm proud to show my blue retired card, drivers license, current government ID card, CWP card or other various identification when required (not that I get pulled over a lot) but I don't scream racism because its required. Well back to saving money, have all state and federal forms in English and we could save millions if not billions, but that would be racist I guess.

I think the truth will lie in the cuts. When the cuts start taking place, they will hurt every American and it will be a bumpy ride...

I bet if you turned the channel you would of gotten a different report. Don't believe every thing you see or hear in the news after all News reporters are only human and they can get it wrong too...

Kim,

could not agree with you more. I do have to point out that while the miltary are considered "essential" their paycheck was cut in half that week of the compromise. They have been told that they will receive their full pay but not as fast as it was denied to them. Just ask any active duty member.

I am so tired of people thinking that the Commissary is such a great deal. I have shopped there many times and would perfer to shop any place downtown. I find the deals better. But that is just my opinion. And when it comes to the "free" medical care the retirees receive, send me your address and I will let you pay the bill for my "free" medical care. Granted it is far less than a civilian pays but when I raised my right hand many years ago, I agreed to FREE medical care and never once agreed to have to pay for my FREE medical care.

I don't know what you were reading into my comment to zook that at least he has his medical care and can shop at the commissary.

I know to well about the Military. I didn't join up but I was a dependent growing up and married AF..... My first 2 boys were born in a Navy Hospital and another son was born in an Army Hospital.

My first husband went to Nam while we were married and I was home with the 3 boys.

I too shopped at many different commissary's and PX's BX's

My present husband went to Nam 3 times and was a manager on this base for 23 years. I know about Government shut downs, and furlough's.

Thank you for your offer to pay your medical bill, but I have my own to pay....

BUT UNDERSTANDING WHY IS A LIITLE MORE COMPLICATED.WE CANT solve this in one fail swoope it is going to take a combination of taxe reform spending cuts,coupled with government overhaul aimed at redundancy in particular.We dont like taxes ,we dont like changing lifstyles but these things need to and are going to happen, spread that pain and it becomes more doable........my opinion only.

Cuts are inevitable. It is a simple truth. The time and place are not important. It is not a matter of being Liberal or not. There comes a time when borrowing, posturing, talking in circles, inertia have been exhausted. Resources such as time, money, energy, effort, patience are finite in supply.

that being said, it will be hard on many. Many have became accustomed to a life that draws income and therefore subsistence and other benefits from government funds. This may be a direct relationship or an indirect tie. A lot of this income, stability was funded on the margin and so should never have happened. Building things up so that one can tear it down is never as efficient as being prudent/responsible from the start. Expectations have a huge impact on life. If one doubts this, consider your paycheck or source of income.
