Leona was born on July 20, 1927 in Tacoma, WA to Howard and Mary Harmon. She moved around with her family while young and during WWII she helped serve at Madigan Military Hospital in Tacoma, WA. She attended Pacific College (now George Fox University) where she met her husband Lloyd. She began her career at George Fox University, teaching Girls PE/Home EC classes. She was the basketball coach and led her team to become Champions. She continued teaching at various schools in various grades in Oregon and retired as Vice Principal after 38 years. Lloyd and Leona loved being active leaders in their church. Leading youth and teaching Sunday school was their passion, and making sure children knew about Christ. You knew you could always rely on Leona to save the day by having any missing craft item that the church would need for that next project or VBS program! Teaching children was Leona’s passion. She was always going that extra mile to a help any child in need, by staying late to tutor a child and helping with school plays. She exemplified what having a passion for teaching was all about.

Leona is survived by 1 child Linda (Gary) Huston of Mtn. Home, 3 grandchildren, Jennifer (Bruce) Chidester of Spring, TX, Jessica (Kevin) Muilenburg of Mtn Home and Cassandra (Mike) Nordin of Mtn Home, 11 great-grandchildren and her 2 brothers; Howard Harmon of OR and Phil (Esther) Harmon of WA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Lloyd in 2006.

Memorial contributions can be made in Leona’s name to the Mtn. Home Nazarene Church Youth Camp Fund. Leona and Lloyd loved helping children attend summer camp.

The family would like to thank St. Luke’s of Meridian, Overland Ct. Boise, and St. Luke’s Hospice for their compassionate care.
