Runners join forces in cancer fundraiser

Runners from Mountain Home joined forces this month to raise money for cancer research during an event named in honor of two local women who battled the disease.

Nearly 90 people participated in the Third Annual Danni Gilbert and Joy Memmelaar Give Cancer the Boot Fun Run, Jog, Walk or Crawl on Nov. 3.

Held at Legacy Park, the event featured shorter courses for younger participants with longer races available for older and more experienced runners.

Andy Croft won the five-kilometer run with an official time of 20 minutes, 15.2 seconds. He also took top honors in the men's 14 to 18 age group.

Riley Urquidi was the second fastest runner that day with a time of 22:26.6. Meanwhile, Laurel McMahan crossed the line at 22:43 to become the fastest women's competitor.

Columbus McMahan was the top finisher in the children's ages 6 and under quarter mile race while Zeff McMahan won the children's half-mile race in the age 7 to 8 category.

Other top youth runners included Aiden Shepard, who won the children's 9 to 10 age division, and Joseph Urquidi, who finished first in the age 11 to 13 category.

Shilo Clark was the fastest female teen runner at 27:14.1 with Alessia Fagiolo and Erika Kruckberg rounding out the top three in that age group.
