Qualifications do matter

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Dear editor:

Qualifications do matter.

Why on earth would well educated, dedicated professionals come out in such opposition to the Luna Laws? The demonizing of teachers is such a pitiful attack on those who strive to improve their profession and produce outstanding individuals.

Teachers are not thugs. I don't know about you, but when I think of a teacher, "thug" is the last word that comes to mind. I mean how dare highly educated, well informed people come out in opposition of those who are grossly unqualified and uneducated? I mean the audacity! (sarcasm)

I ask you, who would you believe if you had to ask someone's opinion on something? Who would you seek advice on education -- someone with a liberal arts degree who got it from an online school in 18 months, or would you ask people who have the actual credentials, work experience and educational background in the field? You know the one's who are ACTUALLY qualified!

And since when has Tom Luna, Butch Otter, or Vandersloot been experts in education? These are politicians and a multi-marketing executive. They are certainly not experts in education!

So who are you going to believe when it comes time to vote, the experts or the politicians who have brought our state nearly last in the nation in education? I know what my answer is! I will take the advice of the experts. So should everyone! And Vote NO on Propositions 1, 2, and 3.

Sincerely,

Pam Chiarella, M.Ed.
