The Mountain Home Lady Tigers dropped home conference soccer games to Kuna and Middleton last week.

Kuna 11, Mountain Home 0

Mountain Home dropped an 11-0 conference game to Kuna last Tuesday at Eastside Park in Mountain Home. Vanessa Estrella had 25 saves on goal for the game.

"We've had some administrative changes and we're having to retool some thinking, not just in our tactics and how we play, but how we interact together as a team, and I think everyone on the team has decided that whether the score or the season reflects it, they're coming back next year together as a team, and that's what's important for them," said Mountain Home girls soccer coach Kent Ogaard.

Middleton 8, Mountain Home 0

Middleton scored three quick goals the latter part of the first half to build its lead to 5-0 at the half, on its way to an 8-0 win over the Lady Tigers Thursday at Eastside Park in Mountain Home. Vanessa Estrella had 15 saves on goal first half and CJ Bish had 10 saves for the second half.

"Even though the score doesn't reflect it, we played better as a team," said Coach Ogaard after the game. "There's more cohesion, they're working together. We've got to work a few of the tactics out, but from whistle to whistle, they stayed in it, and that's what's important for us right now."

The Lady Tigers hosted Emmett Monday, and close out the regular season today (Wednesday) at home against Columbia. Ogaard said they're still in the running for a district tourney berth.

"We're still looking at a bid for district. We have a couple teams that we've been competitive against, and even one that we've already beat, so we still have a bid for district, and when we get there, it'll be a tough go, but that's what Cinderella stories are made out of."

The District III 4A girls soccer tourney starts Monday, Oct. 8, with games on Oct. 8 and 9 at the higher seeds, with the tourney shifting to Bishop Kelly for Oct. 10 and 11.

  • To say the very least, it was another horrible season for the girls varsity and junior varsity teams.

The combined records for both in two seasons are 3-53-2 that is dismal at best. Where do you lay the blame, first is John Clark the AD for

the district for allowing the hiring of sub-standard coaches. Second, the coaching itself, are you telling me that Mtn Home's record reflects the player pool in this community...I firmly disagree. Third, parents needed to be more firm in the performance of these teams, and they should have voiced their concerns to the AD.

Overall, it was a complete disaster and if they allow Coach Ogaard to continue coaching, especially at the varsity level, that is taking the program in the wrong direction...time to start fresh and hire coaches who are certified and legit who know the sport and can translate that to the players.

The program cannot withstand another dismal season as we have seen these past two...it was a good start to fire coach Speak, now it's time to fire coach Ogaard and rebuild the reputation of Mtn Home soccer within the Treasure Valley.
