Mountain Home's soccer squads battle in tough week

Mountain Home High School's boys and girls soccer squads faced a tough week of conference action with both dealing with a series of losses.

In boys' soccer action, Mountain Home suffered losses to Nampa and Caldwell but gained a tie against Skyview.

Nampa 2, Tigers 0

The Tigers were hoping to take down another unbeaten team last Monday, but Nampa scored two early goals and kept the Tigers out of the net to leave Eastside Park with a 2-0 win.

Jack Richelieu had 16 saves on goal and Jorge Salinas had five for the Tigers.

Tiger boys head soccer coach Jay Lockett said Nampa took them out of their game.

"They threw us off our game by bumping us and being physical, but we'll rebound," he said.

"This is part of soccer -- we're going to have highs, we're going to have lows, but we've got nowhere to go up but up," added assistant coach Tre Baham.

Caldwell 3, Tigers 1

The Tigers dropped their second straight game last Wednesday at Caldwell, losing to the Cougars 3-1.

"It was a hard loss," said Coach Lockett, "but we must play better in the first half."

Victor Sanchez scored Mountain Home's lone goal off an assist by Alex Dominguez.

Jack Richelieu had 13 saves on goal for the Tigers.

The loss drops the Tigers to 4-4-1 going into their Saturday game at Skyview.

Tigers 2, Hawks 2

The Tigers battled to a 2-2 tie with Skyview Saturday at Skyview to snap their two-game losing skid.

Paul Rooney and Abraham Salas both scored goals for Mountain Home. Jack Richelieu had seven saves on goal for the Tigers.

Mountain Home took a 4-4-2 record into Monday's home game against Bishop Kelly.

In girls' soccer competition, a battered Mountain Home team dropped conference games to Nampa, Caldwell and Skyview.

Nampa 3, Lady Tigers 2

Mountain Home played Nampa tough last Tuesday, but came up a goal short, losing at Nampa 3-2.

Caldwell 9, Lady Tigers 3

Mountain Home scored early, but couldn't hold off Caldwell, as the Lady Cougars scored a 9-3 win over the Lady Tigers Thursday at Eastside Park.

Madi McCloud, Christa Lewis and Missy Jessup scored goals for Mountain Home.

Skyview 10, Lady Tigers 0

Skyview scored early and often on their way to a 10-0 win over Mountain Home on Saturday at Eastside Park.

"We just ran out of gas, really," said Mountain Home girls' soccer coach Steven Speak.

"Three games in a week is an awful lot, really. We're the only sport that plays as much as three games a week, and keep in mind, they're 80-minute games with no breaks, and it takes a lot."

Mountain Home was at Bishop Kelly Tuesday. The Lady Tigers have a light schedule this week because of homecoming.
