Peter Bernard Cherek, 88, of Twin Falls, formerly of Mountain Home, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at the Twin Falls care center with his family at his side. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Peter was born in Omaha, Neb., on April 2, 1924, the son of Joseph and Martha Cherek. He had a twin brother and was one of eight children.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during WWII in the China-Burma-India Theater. He was in the First Combat Cargo Group from 1944-45.

He married Evelyn in 1946 in Omaha, Neb.. They were married for 66 wonderful years.

He owned an appliance repair business where he retired in 1984. They then moved to Mountain Home to be near their oldest daughter and grandchildren.

In 2011, Peter and Evelyn moved to Twin Falls, to be close to their youngest daughter.

Peter was a loving father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. Words cannot describe how much he was loved and will be missed.

Peter is survived by his wife, Evelyn, daughters Gayle Marie and her husband, Mike Baidy, of Mountain Home, Beth Ann Mantz of Twin Falls, son David Cherek, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
