Y, rec district poised to conduct capital campaign

Friday, August 24, 2012
The WECRD already purchased land for the recreation facility and annexed it into the city.

The Treasure Valley YMCA and the Western Elmore County Recreation District are poised to conduct a major effort aimed at raising more than a half million dollars to build a community recreation center in Mountain Home.

No formal decision has been made to do so, yet, but is expected at any time.

You wants to bet more than a half million dollars is spent raising funds? If the past is any indication that is. One would think after over 10 years of collecting taxes, there would be enough money already available.

  • They have over three million saved, but I guess that's not enough.

  • I say disband the WECRD! What has happened to the tax dollars collected for the last 10 years? Let me guess, its Bush's fault. Amazing they can collect a tax for 10 years and STILL need/want more! In my opinion they are comparable to MHSD

  • Does anyone know what the last study revealed? Was it deemed to be self sustaining or are they going to have to continue taxes and raising other monies to keep it going? Anyone heard?

  • It will not be self sustaining. It will always need tax money/taxing district and the "capital campaign" will not be a one time deal. I have the report. This was not a study on if this was going to be sustainable in this community. The study done, for 20K, (just completed---again) was STRICTLY to determine if the funds needed (600K) could be raised through donations from within this community (the "capital campaign). The report was 67 pages and was provided to the WECRD/YMCA but not released to the public without a huge hassle (same as last time). You can obtain a copy by requesting the COMPLETE report from the WECRD office. They have 3 days from the date of such request to provide it to you---for 10 cents per page.

Their current budget is also out. It can be viewed on the WECRD web page. That is a good read as well.

  • The study indicates that the Y/WECRD should be able to raise the funds needed (600K) within the community.
