Monday, January 16, 2012

A Caldwell teenager was killed in a three-vehicle accident Saturday evening on I-84 east of Mountain Home.

According to Idaho State Police, Taylor Sauer, 18, driving a 2004 Saturn Vue, was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 108 at about 9 p.m., when she struck the rear of a 2011 International semi pulling a tanker trailer that was driven by David Seefried, 49, of Heyburn. Seefried was in the right lane of travel and going up the long grade at that point at approximately 15 miles per hour.

After Sauer hit the rear of the tanker she was then was struck by a 2003 Volvo semi pulling a trailer that was driven by Slawomir Porada, 42, of St. Louis, Mo. Porada drove off the road as a result of the collision.

Sauer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Porada was transported by ground ambulance to Elmore Medical Center in Mountain Home with non-life-threatening injuries.

Seat belts were worn by all and alcohol was not a factor in this crash.

The westbound lanes were blocked for approximately an hour. Traffic was reduced to a single lane for three hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Prayers to her family, I do have to wonder it there was fog or was a texting involved. It would be interesting to see why she ran into the back of a semi on the uphill grade. It would also be interesting to ask why the second truck was so close it hit her. Everyone should watch their following distance exspecially this time of year.

  • She was either texting or fell asleep, as the driver never hit the brakes before hitting the first semi. Then her car went into the left lane there the second semi hit her
