Don Butzer

Don Antonio Butzer, 64, of Mountain Home, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at his home following an illness. A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.

Don was born on Oct. 23, 1946, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Omar and Viola Butzer. He graduated in 1964, from Sundance (Wyoming) High School and entered in the U.S. Army in 1965.

Don has had a very full, adventurous, love-filled life. He has done many things most people only dream about. He served in Vietnam in 1967, ran with the bulls in Spain, worked with SHAPE in Europe, and while in Europe was the European Bowling Champion. Don was also involved with the SALT Talks, and when working at the Pentagon he worked for four chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Don moved to Mountain Home in 2000, living at Sunset Manor. Don helped everyone and everyone loved Don. He brought smiles, love and happiness to all. Don will leave a wonderful legacy for all to remember.

Don knitted hats for several organizations, including: Head Start of Mountain Home and Glenns Ferry, the coat drives for the Catholic churches of Mountain Home, Bruneau and Grand View, and the hats were also sent to Duck Valley Indian Reservation and to Holy Rosary on an Indian reservation in South Dakota. In total, Don knitted over 3,000 hats.

Don is survived by his mother, Viola, of Mountain Home, his sister Barbara and her husband, Arlie Raber, of Mountain Home, his sister Wyn and her husband, Walt Deska, of Michigan, his brother Omar and his wife, Linda Butzer, of Mountain Home, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Omar, and a sister, Phyllis Becker.
