Janet Ruth Burkeen, 74-year-old Rupert resident, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at Minidoka Memorial Hospital.

She had been diagnosed with lung cancer on Nov. 24, 2010.

Janet was born Aug. 26, 1936, in Fashing, Texas, to William Harvey Flud and Nettie Berniece Singleton. She had nine siblings: Beatrice, Bill, Mildred, Wilma, Linda, Glenda, Walter, Scott and Sam.

In 1951 Janet married Joe Camp. During that marriage she had two sons, Rodney and Joel.

After her divorce from Joe she met the love of her life, Melvin Talton Burkeen. They were married Aug. 28, 1961, and they had three children, Doug, Doyle and Jamie.

Mel and Janet raised their family in Grand View, Idaho. They lived in Grand View until Mel passed away in 1996, then Janet moved to Rupert. Janet knew she would be reunited with Mel in the home he had prepared for them in Heaven.

Some of Janet's favorite things to do were writing poetry, baking, canning, fishing and watching baseball. Her favorite team was the Seattle Mariners.

Janet also enjoyed spending time with her family. Her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids were the light of her life.

Janet is survived by her children: Rodney (Nancy) Camp and Joel (Connie) Camp of Cleburne, Texas; Doug Burkeen of Rupert, Idaho; Doyle Burkeen of North Dakota and Jamie (Mat) Titus of Burley, Idaho; Grandkids Rodney Camp, Brian Little and J.R. Camp of Cleburne, Texas, Amanda Titus of Burley, Idaho, Kayla Titus of Rupert, Idaho and Melanie Titus of Burley, Idaho, Allie and Nathan Burkeen of Phoenixville, Pa., and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Wilma (Don) Smith of Oregon, Walter Bilton of Oregon, Sam Bilton of Oregon, Linda (Joe) Jordan of Oregon and Scott Bilton of Oregon, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel, both her parents, and siblings Glenda, Mildred, Beatrice and Bill.

The family would like to thank Dr. Greg Boettcher, Minidoka Memorial Hospital and Morrisons Funeral Home for their loving kindness during Janet's time of need. Janet is loved deeply and will be missed greatly by all of her friends and family.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at the Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert, with Pastor Travis Turner officiating.
