Charles Cheney

Charles E. Cheney died Sept. 12, 2009, in Roseville. Minn. He was married to the former Arta Isaac of Mountain Home.

Chuck was born to Burt and Louise Cheney on June 16, 1943, in St Paul, Minn., and was a lifelong resident of that city.

His career was spent as a CPA and then in executive roles. Most recently as chief financial officer and board member of Navarre Corporation. He then went back to school and obtained his law degree and did most of his work in that field pro bono, helping friends, relatives and strangers.

In 1987, his oldest son, Mike Cheney, was killed in a skydiving accident and for the next 18 years, one of Chuck's greatest passions was the annual Mike Cheney Memorial Golf Tournament. Through an endowment created from the proceeds of this event, many young people have attended and will continue to be able to attend Camp Widjiwagan, a wilderness camp in northern Minnesota.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Arta, three sons, Paul Cheney (Jessie), Ted Cheney (Addie), and Jed Cheney. He is also survived by three grandsons, Nicky, Louis, and August, his brothers Chency (Fran) and John Vong, and sisters Mary Ann (Bob) Evander and Jean Marie Vong.

Services were held Sept. 16, 2009, at Bethlehem Ludwm Church in St Paul, the church Chuck had attended as a child.
