Barbara South Jones, 84, of Mountain Home, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at a local care center.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, July 8, at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah. Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home and Wheeler Mortuary in Springville, Utah.

Barbara was born on July 30, 1923, in Cornish, Utah, the daughter of George and Donna-May South. At a young age the family moved to Idaho. She attended schools in Boise, Twin Falls and Burley.

In 1941, she married Merlin Rex Jones in Boise. They moved to California and worked in the aircraft industry during World War II. Later she worked for Safeway in Lancaster, Calif., as a bookkeeper until her retirement. She moved to Mountain Home in 2002.

Barbara enjoyed knitting and cleaning her home so people could come over for dinner.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Barbara was a resident of the Cottages of Mountain Home from November 2004 to March 2008. She then resided at the Elmore Long Term Care Center until her death. "Both facilities were wonderful and gave Barbara wonderful care," her family said.

Barbara is survived by: her daughter, Barbara-Lynn ,and her husband, Ted Burgess, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Merlin in 1988, four siblings and one granddaughter.
