Windell "Wink" C. Martin, 88, of Glenns Ferry, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at a Boise care center.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the VFW Hall in Glenns Ferry with inurnment to follow at Glenn Rest Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Wink was born on Oct. 7, 1918, in Rexburg, Idaho, the son of John and Jane Martin.

Wink was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific, and a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He was also a member of the VFW, the Moose Lodge and the Lion's Club.

Wink met Edith V. Harder when she worked at the Ox Bow Café in Bliss and they were married at Salt Lake City in 1972. In 1977 they moved to Edith's hometown of Glenns Ferry.

Wink traveled the U.S. as a truck driver with Consolidated Freightways for 36 years. He drove the Montana Branch until the age of 70, and often with his wife, Edith, at his side.

After retirement he went to work for Western Farm Service for ten years and then for Ralph and Dewey Crane for a time.

Wink's hobbies included playing pool, and fishing. He had a green thumb when it came to his gardens. A toothpick was his calling card.

Wink is survived by: his wife, Edith Martin, of Glenns Ferry; sons Gary, and his wife, Dawn Martin, of Florida, Richard and his wife, Tawnya Martin, of Coeur d'Alene, and Greg and his wife, Kathy Martin, of Washington; daughters Marilyn and her husband, Frank Payan, of Salt Lake, Donna and her husband, Tony Croteau, of Montana, Janice Cahall of Montana, and Judy and her husband, Dale Zeller, of Hazelton, Idaho, 29 grandchildren, and 44 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters and two stepchildren.
