Red Gibbens

Lt. Col. (ret.) Edward "Red" M. Gibbens, 89, of Meridian, formerly of Mountain Home, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, at a Boise hospital.

Graveside services were held Friday, Sept. 8, at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Red was born in Meridian, on Oct. 26, 1916, to Harry and Beatrice Gibbens. He graduated from Hailey high school in 1935, and the California School of Embalming, in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1938.

Red's distinguished military career included being a bombardier, serving in intelligence, as a weapons control officer, as Chief of Ground Environment, Assistant Chief and OIC Resistance Training. He retired in 1968.

He was a prisoner of war in Korea from March 1951 to September 1953.

Red is survived by: his wife, Joan Gibbens of Meridian; son Carl and his wife, Kathleen Gibbens, of California; daughter-in-law Vicki and her husband, Bob Brinegar, of Marsing; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter and numerous brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Red's memory to the Idaho Youth Ranch, 385 N. 2nd East St., Mountain Home, ID 83647.
