Sigert Johnson, 84

Sigert Emil Johnson, 84, of Indian Cove, died Friday, July 21, 2006, near his home.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, July 25, at the Mountain Home Seventh-day Adventist Church in Mountain Home. Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, Mountain Home.

"Sigert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and fisherman," his family said. "He always stated, 'the happiest days of my life were the ones with Helen and my children at home on the farm'."

Sigert was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Emmett, Idaho. At 6 months of age his parents, John Emil and Mary Rachael, moved to Indian Cove with his two older sisters, Lucille and Ivy, and one brother, Chet.

"Many happy, memorable summers were spent in Bear Valley with his father and Carl Johnson, his cousin and dear friend," his family said. "Salmon were speared, fish caught, deer and elk taken, and tall tales told.

"He was a good provider, worked hard, and loved his wife, family and God unconditionally.

"Other than his wife and family, his love and zest for life included friends, farming, fishing, hunting, pinochle, fishing, checkers, fishing, rummy and fishing. He was well known for his record-breaking corn yields for Jolly Green Giant."

Sigert is survived by: five children, son Andy Johnson and his wife, Lorna, and their three children of Indian Cove; four daughters, Debbe Johnson of Boise, Cassie Ragenovich and her husband, Michael, of College Place, Wash., Julie Johansen and her husband, Kim, of Twin Falls, Melissa Perry and her husband Marvin, and their daughter, of Roy, Utah, and his three sisters, Jean Thomas of Reno, Nev., Ivy Jones of Maraposa, Calif., and Helen Chambless of Hamilton, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his brother, Chet, and two sisters, Lucille and Nina Marie.
