Martin Alzola, 80, of Mountain Home, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at the Alzhiemers Care Center in Mountain Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday July 23, 2005 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements were by Rost Funeral Home of Mountain Home.

Martin was born in Mountain Home on Nov. 17, 1924, to Faustino and Eusebia Alzola of Vizcaya, Spain. He attended grade school and high school in Mountain Home and graduated in 1942.

He attended the University of Idaho and served in the US Air Force before starting work for the Sawtooth Lumber Company, loading lumber on freight cars.

In 1946 he married Doris Hunt at St. John's Cathedral in Boise. Together they had two children, Gary and Karma.

Martin joined his brothers at the Alzola Brother's Ranch in Owyhee County, where he worked until his children needed to begin school.

In 1952 Martin and Doris built their home in Mountain Home. The same year, Martin was hired by the Mountain Home Highway District where he became part of a two-man crew. He retired in March of 1989 after 36 years of service. The Highway District had grown to 16 employees under Martin's supervision.

He enjoyed a quiet retirement of fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, and helping his kids and brothers with many projects whenever they needed a hand.

Martin is survived by: his wife, Doris; his son, Gary Alzola and his wife, Chris; his daughter, Karma Ellis; his brothers, Arsen and Frosty Alzola; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephew.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, and one sister.
