James "Jim" Prano, 67, of San Bernardino, Calif., formerly of Mountain Home, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, in Murtaugh, Idaho.

Funeral services were held Saturday Jan. 29, at the American Legion War Memorial Hall in Mountain Home, under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, Mountain Home.

Jim was born July 5, 1937, in Detroit, Mich.

He joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17 and was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base, where he met and married Charlene Crain of Mountain Home. After retiring from the Air Force they decided to settle in Mountain Home where Jim went to work for the Elmore County Sheriff's Department.

After leaving the sheriff's department Jim worked for the Idaho State Correctional Facility until Charlene's death in 1983. They had been married 24 years.

After losing Charlene he then moved to California to start his own trucking company, Jim Prano Trucking.

In 1996 Jim met Peggy at the Marine Corps Base in Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif., where Peggy worked as a military shipping clerk. A mutual friend arranged a blind date between Peggy and Jim and from that first date a relationship blossomed and they were married on Oct. 10, 1998.

"Jim was very caring and giving gentleman who left friends where ever he went. Jim will be missed by all that knew him,' his family said.

Jim is survived by: his wife, Peggy Prano of California; his three children, Jerry, Chris and David, and his wife's two children, Chris and Rob; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters Marion and Kathy, and brothers Frank, Benito and Charles.

Both parents, his first wife, and numerous brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
