Bernt weds Stocking

Joan T. Bernt, the daughter of the late Lawrence Bernt and Mrs. Marilyn Bernt of Mountain Home, married Glenn Stocking of Pocatello on Dec. 27, 2003, in a Christmas wedding celebration at the Red Lion Inn, Pocatello.

The bride wore a light cream-colored wedding dress of crepe de chine. The dress, reminiscent of those worn in the 1940s, featured collars and cuffs lined with white arctic fur. She also wore a white 1940s-style hat. She carried a bouquet of Stargazer lilies, burgundy roses, baby's breath, pine boughs, and petite pine cones. In the bridal tradition, Joan wore a crystal necklace from the Mulkey estate, a blue garter, and borrowed her sister's pearls.

The groom wore burgundy and black.

The matron of honor was Liz Jordan of Pocatello. Her husband, Scott Jordan, served as best man. Mr. and Mrs. Jordan were attired in burgundy and hunter green. Freckles Stocking, Glenn's dog, was the ring bearer.

The bride and groom exchanged vows before the Hon. Judge McDermott in the Bonneville Room; each then read a humanitarian verse from Kahil Gibran.

The room was decorated with bells, sleighs , sprays of white carnations, poinsettia, and swags of pine and evergreens.

Following the ceremony, a champagne brunch reception was held poolside. In keeping with the Christmas theme, the wedding cake was made of Maryland Gingerbread from a pre-1810 family recipe. Topiaries of Stargazer lillies and evergreen flanked the table.

Afterwards, Joan wore her mother's ivory-colored circa 1940 wedding dress, featuring lace and seed pearls. Photographs were taken alongside a 1940 Woody Coupe.

All accommodations for guests were arranged by the Red Lion Inn, Pocatello.

On Jan. 2, the bride and groom will honeymoon in Buena Vista; Cabos San Lucas, Mexico.

The bride is employed by the American Red Cross in Boise. The groom is a retired engineer from Union Pacific Railroad. The couple will live in their homes in Pocatello and Boise.
