Helen E. Hawley, 96, died May 21, 2003 in Ellensburg, Wash. Helen was a long-time resident of Mountain Home, Payette and moved to Ellensburg in 2001.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, May 28, at Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Helen Elizabeth Dunn was born Dec. 19, 1906, in Eldora, Iowa, to William Seward and Clara Hall Dunn. Her parents moved the family to Reeder, N.D., where her father "proved up" on a claim. From there they moved to Hazelton, Idaho, where she attended school.

It was in Hazelton that she met F. Elbert Hawley. They married on July 24, 1932.

Helen was a long-time teacher in both Payette and Mountain Home. She retired in 1972.

Helen was an active member of the Congregational Church, state president of Women's Fellowship, president of Willing Lifters and resident of the local Women's Fellowship. She served on the Diaconate Board for two terms. Helen was a member of P.E.O., Chapter W and served as president of the chapter.

Helen enjoyed people, playing bridge, crocheting and her roses.

Helen is survived by: her three sons and daughters-in-law, Merrill and Patricia of Riverton, Wyo.; Bill and Carolyn of Spokane, Wash., and Jim and Judy of Ellensburg,Wash.; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert, and three brothers; Ralph, Glenn and Seward Dunn.
