Josephine R. Buckhardt, a resident of Pendleton, Ore., died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, in a Pendleton care facility. She was 89 years old.

Mrs. Buckhardt was born March 5, 1923, in Petoskey, Mich. She was the daughter of John and Julia (Pochask) Kruzel. She was raised and educated in Petoskey.

She married Clyde D. Buckhardt on Aug. 25, 1945, in San Jose, Calif. The family had lived in San Jose and Elverta, Calif, as well as Boise, Idaho, and Mountain Home, Idaho.

Mr. Buckhardt died in 2000, and Mrs. Buckhadt came to Pendleton in 2005 to be closer to her family.

She greatly enjoyed crocheting, reading and working jigsaw puzzles, as well as her dog, Buffy. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was a member of St. Mary's Parish.

She is survived by: her daughters, Josie Silver (Leroy) of Hagerman, Idaho, Mary Foster of Pendleton, Ore., and Yvonne Walker (Don), also of Pendleton, Ore.; one brother, Anthony "Tony" Kruzel of Michigan; five grandchildren, Frances Silver, Robert Silver, Suzanne Meriski, Jerrald LaChappelle and Michael Schermann, and six great-grandchildren, as well as her beloved dog, Buffy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ignatius, two sisters, Mary Cardy and Catherine Kruzel, as well as one granddaughter, Tisha Schermann.
