Soccer seasons end on mixed note

Mountain Home High School's boys and girls soccer squads finished their respective seasons on a mixed note last week.

In boys action, the Tigers finished the regular season with a win and tie last week.

Tigers 5, Emmett 2

The Tigers took it to Emmett on Oct. 1 for Senior Night at Eastside Park.

Fernando Martinez scored two goals, while Eduardo Dominguez, Abrahan Salinas and James Pack each had one.

Jack Richelieu had 11 saves on goal, Jorge Salinas had three.

"It was a great win -- a great team win -- especially on Senior Night, and the seniors deserved it," said Tigers head boys soccer coach Jay Lockett following the game.

"It was great," added assistant coach Tre Baham. "On Senior Night, we had the crowd out, the music out, the kids were playing great for each other (and) to score five goals, it was a great day."

Tigers 1, Wildcats 1

The Tigers fought to a 1-1 tie with Columbia last Wednesday at Columbia. Abrahan Salas scored Mountain Home's goal off an assist by Brandon Zacarias. Jack Richelieu had 12 saves on goal.

The Tigers finish the regular season 7-5-4, good enough for the sixth seed in District III, and opened the District III 4A tourney against number three seed Bishop Kelly on Monday at Bishop Kelly.

The tourney continued Tuesday at the higher seeds, with Mountain Home and Bishop Kelly in the same bracket as second-seeded Nampa and seventh-seeded Columbia, with winners playing winners and losers playing losers. The district tournament moves to Caldwell today, Oct. 10, and Thursday, Oct. 11.

In other soccer action, the Lady Tigers' 2012 season ended last week with losses to Emmett and Columbia.

Emmett 5, Mountain Home 0

The Mountain Home girls hosted Emmett last Monday in conference soccer at Eastside Park. Vanessa Estrella had 13 saves on goal in the loss.

Columbia 3, Mountain Home 1

The Lady Tigers closed out what's been a frustrating season with a 3-1 loss to Columbia during Senior Night at Eastside Park in Mountain Home.

Andrea Garcia scored Mountain Home's lone goal, off an assist by Christa Lewis. Vanessa Estrella had 33 saves on goal for the Lady Tigers.

"By far, without a doubt, that was the best game they've played all season," said Mountain Home girls soccer coach Kent Ogaard.

"They played as a team 100 percent. We fixed the errors that we ran into last game. They came off the field excited even though it was a loss. They're ready for next season. Unfortunately, the loss means we won't be going to district."

The Lady Tigers finished the season at 1-15.
