Frieda Jones

On Jan. 27, 2012, we lost our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Frieda Jones. She passed away in her home surrounded by family and friends after a brief illness.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, 115 North 4th East Street in Mountain Home, with internment at Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

A reception and celebration of life will follow at the Elks Lodge, 325 South 3rd West Street in Mountain Home.

Frieda was born in Straubing, Germany, on Nov. 7, 1925, to Theresa and Alois Heigl. She enjoyed life growing up in Straubing -- a beautiful town in Bavaria along the banks of the Danube River.

By the end of World War II, she had met and married the love of her life, a handsome American Soldier, Harold Jones. Like so many young women of that era, she left her homeland and traveled to the United States. They spent their first Christmas in New York City with their young daughter, Eva.

Harold and Frieda settled into their first home in Washington, living in Seattle and Tacoma. Harold was a career military man, and the service took him back to Germany from 1956 to 1961.

Mountain Home was his last tour of duty with the Air Force. They both loved life in a small community, where the surroundings were beautiful and the fishing good. They decided to make Idaho their home.

Frieda and Harold were charter members of the Mountain Home Elks Lodge BPOE #2276 and enjoyed many years of good times with great lifelong friends.

In 1962, they were blessed with a son, Harold Jr., and in 1964 a daughter, Susie.

Frieda sadly said good-bye to Harold Sr. in April 1989 after he lost his battle to cancer. She continued her life in Mountain Home, devoted to her children, grandchildren and later great grandchildren. She loved to travel and made several trips back to Germany. Frieda spent many hours gardening, knitting and volunteering at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish and the Elks Lodge. Frieda was truly a woman of style and grace. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Eva and husband Mark Nye, son Harold Jr. and wife Kirsten Jones, daughter Susie and husband Curtis Duncan, grandchildren Rob and wife Patty Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Jordan Duncan, Abree Duncan, Luke Jones and Logan Jones, great-grandchildren, Meredith, Grant and Everett Johnson and Alex Johnson-Lengyel.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, husband Harold Sr., grandson Philip and granddaughter Nicole.
