Larry Dean Hightower, 73, of Mountain Home, passed away at home on Nov. 26, 2011.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Larry was born Sept. 12, 1938, in Tulsa, Okla., the only child of Jack and Shirley Hightower. He spent his childhood in Oklahoma, Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

He started military school at the age of 12 and enlisted in the Idaho National Guard of Idaho in 1956 and later that year enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in numerous locations before retiring in 1977 at Mountain Home Air Force Base.

Larry liked to fly and received his private pilot's license in 1973.

During 1977-1980 he was a volunteer deputy sheriff for Elmore County.

He was an active Boy Scout leader from 1978-1983.

Larry married Delores Cavin in February 1978 and they resided in Mountain Home until 1980 when Larry took the position as a federal police officer at the INEL in Idaho Falls. In 1984, they moved to Boise when he was transferred to the position of a federal police officer for all federal buildings in southwest Idaho and Oregon, retiring in 1996 and moving back to Mountain Home.

Larry was a member of American Legion Post #26, Masons Oriental Lodge #60, Order of the Eastern Star Adah Chapter #8, Scottish Rite of Free Masons, Air Force Sergeants Association, Retired Federal Police Officers Association, National Rifle Association, National Wildlife Federation, The Planetary Society and Ducks Unlimited.

Larry is survived by his son, Brett, his stepchildren, Glennda Day, Delilah Cavin, Wintauna Belt, John Cavin and Harry Fields, 12 step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
