Robert "Bob" Gregory McCrea, Sr., 78, of Glenns Ferry, died on Nov. 2, 2011, at a local hospital.

A service was held on Monday, Nov. 7, at Our Lady of Limerick, with military honors and burial at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry. Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Bob attended Holy Angels Catholic School and West Aurora High School. After graduating, he attended basic training for the Air Force at Lackland AFB in 1951, serving at many Air Force bases as an airplane mechanic.

While stationed at Mountain Home AFB, Bob met his wife, Shirley Alexander. They were married in Gooding on Sept. 14, 1954. In October 1955, they moved to Aurora, Ill., where he started his apprenticeship for the plumber and pipefitters union #501. He went on to have a career with them for 43 years.

Bob was very active and post commander of the Amvets #103, the Eagles Club and the Irish Club. Bob enjoyed fishing, golf and attended many high school sporting events. His favorite sports teams were the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Blackhawks.

He developed a friendship while building Seven Bridges Ice Arena for Pat Stapleton of the Chicago Blackhawks. He was able to attend hockey games with his sons.

Bob is survived by his spouse of 57 years, Shirley, daughter Donna McCrea, both of Glenns Ferry, sons Robert Jr. and partner Paul Manners of Holly, Mich., and Gary and Angela of Wintergarden, Fla., grandchildren James Kearns (Fran), Michelle Kearns (Mitchell), Michael Kearns (Jeremy), Carla Kearns (Timothy), Todd (Theresa), Nicole (Torionne), Michelle and Carissa Brizek, great-grandchildren Allyssa, Autum, Lily, Noah Kearns, Kadin and Peyton Manz, Alana Rose McCrea, Cole and Lili Johnson and Maddox Seward, Bob's twin sister, Joan, sister Sharon Wimot, sister-in-law Sylvia McCrea and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his stepfather, Glen Anderson, mother Mae, father Robert C., his sister, Shirley, and his brother, Joel.
