Mae Sanders

Mae G. Sanders, 88, of Mountain Home, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011, at a local care center.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m, on Thursday, July 14, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Mae was born to William and Marie Bredison Gette, on May 5, 1923, in Mountain Home, the second of four children. Mae and her three brothers were raised in and graduated from Mountain Home schools, spending summers on the family sheep ranch on the Nevada border.

Mae worked at the local bank and as a secretary for local attorney Pierce Hall until she met TSgt. Bill Sanders at a USO function. They married in Tonapah, Nev., on March 6, 1944. Mae continued working in the bank in Tonopah until the birth of their first son, Bill Jr. in February 1945.

After the war, Bill, Mae and Bill Jr. moved back to Billšs home in South Carolina where Bill went back to work for the Life Insurance Company of Virginia.

In 1948, Bill and Mae had the opportunity to buy an insurance agency in Mountain Home and moved back. With long hours and hard work, Bill was said to have never met a stranger. He and Mae made that agency a success, making many dear lifetime friends.

In 1952, Mae and Bill added a second son, Jim, to the family. Jim and his wife, Deb, took over the insurance business upon Bill and Maešs retirement.

Mae became an ordained minister and together with Bill founded the Church of the Wildwood in Featherville. On any given Sunday at 11 a.m., you could find Bill shaking hands and hugging all the ladies, welcoming every one. Mae preformed numerous weddings and funerals and very seldom missed a Sunday.

Mae was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and an infant daughter.

Bill passed away in May of 2001.

Due to advanced dementia, Mae lived in Cedar Crest for the past several years.

The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Starkey and staff and Charlene and staff at Cedar Crest for their excellent care.
