Margaret Pruette

Margaret W. Pruette, 79, passed away at Valley Care Hospital, Pleasanton, Calif., on Aug. 17, 2010, after a brief illness.

She had been a resident at Rosewood Gardens Assisted Living Center in Livermore for the past 2 1/2 years.

Margaret was born in King Hill, Idaho, on July 17, 1931, but called Santa Barbara, Calif., home for over 46 years. She retired from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1993 where she made many lifelong friends.

She led a simple life, rich with friends, books and family. Margaret loved all animals, especially cats; she knew all the neighborhood dogs and cats by name. She enjoyed her daily walks and talking to her neighbors. She was also known for making a killer chocolate mousse for those special occasions.

Margaret was born on the family farm in King Hill Idaho to Roy and Anna Barnes, the second of five children. Her grandparents, Martin and Anna Lucich emigrated from Yugoslavia, eventually settling in Idaho where they

farmed.

She attended King Hill Elementary School and King Hill High School and, after graduation, Albion State Normal School (later Southern Idaho College of Education) in Albion, Idaho.

She married Warren J. Pruette in 1952 in Pocatello, Idaho. In 1956 they moved to San Jose Calif., where they lived until moving to Santa Barbara in 1961.

Margaret is survived by her only son, Gary, daughter-in-law Deborah and granddaughter Kate, all of Pleasanton, Calif. She is also survived by her sisters, Anita Lowen (Roger) of Reston, Va., and Mary Ann Colson of Rawlings, Wyo., and her aunt, Eva Lucich Dalrymple of Bellevue, Wash.

Her parents, sister Katherine and brother Travis preceded her in death.

She will be greatly missed and remain in the hearts and memories of the many people who called her mom, friend, grandmother and sister.

Her ashes will be interred in Glenns Ferry, Idaho.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Humane Society.
