David Gossett
David Lloyd Gossett, 76, of Meridian, formerly of Mountain Home, passed away on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at a Boise care center.
A graveside inurnment will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 12, at Mountain View Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #26. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
David was born on Dec. 3, 1933, in Lewistown, Mont. He was the first of two children born to Herbert and Marie (Donisthorpe) Gossett, the other child being his sister, Ramona (Salvadalina). He later was blessed with the addition of two brothers, Curtis (Justine) Gossett, Bill (Barbara) Hanson and a sister, Edie Gossett.
An unusual and self sufficient man, Dave had many adventures in his life. As a child and teen, he spent many hours camping in the woods of Washington State, with only his dog and his skills sometimes being gone from home more than a week at a time. Because of his love of the woods, he later joined the U.S. Forest Service, where he became their cook and fought fires with the crew.
He decided to attend the University of Washington to become a forest ranger.
During his summer months, he was a campgrounds manager on Mount Baker. Lots of stories there!
He decided to join the US Air Force and from there he traveled the world - both in military assignments and just checking out every country he could while he was enlisted.
He married Annegrete Boerner while in Germany, and two daughters, Dane and Francine, were born to their union. They were later divorced. He retired from the Air Force in 1972, at Mountain Home Air Force Base.
While residing in Mountain Home, he became employed with the Elmore County Sheriffıs Office, and served as a baliff for the Fourth Judicial District
Court.
He met his wife, Judi Malm, while working for the court. They were later married at the Church of the Wildwood in Featherville.
His favorite employment was that of a commissary manager in Neah Bay, Wash.
He loved living on the beach, where he took his grandchildren fishing and taught them many fun stories. He retired from there after the Coast Guard decided to close the base.
Dave and Judi resided in Mountain Home, until they moved to Meridian, to be closer to family. During this time, he was affected by health problems that were sometimes debilitating. He fought these problems with such amazing gusto and amazed everyone with his stamina, including his doctors.
God decided Dave had had enough and took him Home, where his suffering has ended. We will miss him.
In addition to his wife, survivors of Dave, are his daughters Dane (David) Foster of Marsing and Francine Erickson of Bellingham, Wash., his brother Curtis (Justine) Gossett of Twin Falls, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Hanson of North Dakota. Also surviving are step-children Dana (Bob) Rowett, David Malm and Jennifer (Bob) Wupper, all of Meridian. He has 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two sisters, one brother and a step-son Bruce Malm.
