Jim Venable

Floyd James "Jim" Venable Jr., 82, of Prairie, passed away on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at his home following an illness.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 20, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Jim was born on July 13, 1927, in Oakland, Calif., the son of Floyd and Mary Venable. The family later moved to Eagle and spent many summers in Prairie. At the age of 16, Jim and his parents moved to San Francisco, where Jim worked in the shipyards. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines. Jim was discharged at the age of 19.

After the service Jim attended the University of Idaho on the GI Bill for two years. Following college, Jim moved back to Prairie, where he logged and ranched.

On May 1, 1954, Jim married Patricia May Andrews and together they had four children: Jim, Jerry, Lorraine and Mark. In 1970, Jim built the Prairie Store, where much fun was had by all.

Jim is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Prairie, his son, Jim Venable III, of Prairie, his daughter, Lorraine, and her husband, Joe Blanchard, of Prairie, his son, Mark Venable of Boise, his grandchildren, Paul Venable, Hathaway Venable and Sam Venable, and his sister, Ellen Hill, of Walla Walla, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Elsie, and his son, Jerry.
